INTRODUCTION
Charts turn rows of numbers into pictures for faster understanding and visual impact.
TYPES OF CHARTS IN SPREADSHEET
1. Column Chart: Vertical bars comparing categories (sales of 4 products).
2. Line Chart: Shows trends over time (share price, website visitors).
3. Pie Chart: One data series as % of total (family budget, market share).
4. Bar Chart: Horizontal bars – useful when category names are long.
5. Area Chart: Line chart with filled area – emphasises magnitude of change.
6. Scatter Chart (XY): Shows relationship between two variables (ads vs sales).
7. Bubble Chart: Scatter with bubble size = third variable (price, sales, profit).
8. Radar Chart (Net Chart): Spider web – compares items across criteria (employee skills).
9. Stock Chart: Shows high, low, open, close prices for stocks.
10. Column & Line Chart: Combined – columns for actual, line for target.
11. Exploded Pie Chart: One slice pulled out to highlight it.
12. Donut Chart: Pie with hole – can show multiple data series as rings.
13. Exploded Donut Chart: Donut with all slices exploded.
STEPS TO CREATE CHARTS IN LIBREOFFICE CALC
1. Enter data with headers. 2. Select data. 3. Insert → Chart → Choose type. 4. Tick "First row as label" & "First column as label". 5. Finish.

ELEMENTS OF A CHART
Chart Text: Titles (Chart, Axis). Chart Area: Entire region. Plot Area: Where data is plotted. Axis: X, Y, Z reference lines. Data Labels: Values of data points. Gridlines: Optional guides. Legend: Colour/symbol indicators.
Exam Q (2018 Mar, 2021 Mar – 2 Marks): Name four elements? Ans: Chart Title, Axis, Data Series, Legend, Plot Area, Gridlines (any four).
FORMATTING CHARTS
Double-click chart → Use Insert/Format tabs to add/edit Titles, Legend, Data Labels, Gridlines.
Resize: Click chart → Drag handles on border.
Move: Drag chart by mouse or Cut/Paste.
2D vs 3D CHARTS
2D: Flat (X,Y) – accurate for reading values.
3D: Adds depth (Z axis) – visually attractive but may distort perception.
